Hair today, gone tomorrow

Today the unthinkable happened. My beautiful and extremely charitable wife had a little trim in order to donate the hair to The Little Princess Trust (LPT).

Why is this worth a write up on a parenting blog? Well first let me tell you a little about the fantastic work that The LPT do, then I’ll show you those awesome stereotypical before and after pictures.

The LPT specialise in making wigs from real hair to give to children that have lost their own hair due to cancer, as well as funding grants into childhood cancer research. The charity runs entirely on donations so they rely on generous supplies of hair and sponsorships to provide this service which really can make the difference to the life of a child.

For Sarah this decision was a no-brainer. She had let her hair get so long through pure laziness that Rapunzel was beginning to get jealous, so she decided this was a great time to hand her locks over to such a worthy cause.

I’ll be honest, I was a little concerned. It was always going to be a drastic change and if she decided that she did not like the new look, then it could take many years to grow back. This was maybe not so dangerous for her as it was for her poor cousin tasked with the chopping. (Thanks Lisa!)

We had taken some rough measurements at home to see how much she could give, which I thought it may be around 12 inches. It turned out to be 20 (never ask a man to measure inches) and I’m sure the Little Princess Trust will be delighted.

So, now that you’ve read my ramblings I’m sure you want to see the results! I think Sarah looks amazing and I’m sure you will all agree.

Here’s the serious part. These wigs do not come cheap and it and it costs around Β£550 for The Little Princess Trust to transform this hair into a beautiful wig. Our hope is that we can raise this amount through donations and be able to send both the hair and the money to change a child’s life.

If you would like to make a donation, you can find Sarah’s Donation page here https://www.gofundme.com/f/sarahs-having-the-chop-for-little-princess (Update, the fund is now closed)

We would also hugely appreciate if you could share this post on social media as the more people we can reach, the more likely we are to reach our goal, thanks!

For more info about the fantastic work being done by The Little Princess Trust, check out their website and perhaps you may even be able to help them yourself in the future?

Edit: This fundraiser is now closed. Huge thank you to all those who contributed and I’m delighted to let you know that we raised almost Β£500 for this amazing charity.

More ramblings of a mad man….

New year, new Robbie

Some concepts are difficult to explain. Despite our best efforts, Robbie really could not get his head around the excitement of new year. A 7PM bedtime probably doesn’t help. I can’t really blame the boy as I have never shown much interest in the turn of the year either, it’s just a change of number. Sarah is the…

The smartest moron I know

It’s commonly accepted that kids go to school to learn. It’s a gradual process where children get brighter every day and come out years later as semi functioning human beings. Simple right? Robbie is obviously doing things differently. Every day we pick him up from his reception class and ask what he has been up…

It’s Oh So Quiet

There’s no screaming, no laughter and no constant shouting of the word β€˜Dad.’ The house is not shaking and there is no trail of destruction and half eaten snacks spread out like a treasure hunt. As Bjork famously said, it’s oh so quiet. The last few weeks have felt like a hurricane hit us. Our…

Robbie the schoolboy

It still feels a little strange but reality has now set in and I am coming to terms with being the Father of a school kid. When school shuts its gates on Tuesday so that the kids can have a week preparing for Santa’s visit, Robbie will have completed his first term at school. It…
